After plenty of discussion and a few disagreements over who should qualify for a seat, Lompoc City Council members made their final selections for the city’s Economic Development Committee on Dec. 6.

The new committee will be headed by Teresa Gallavan, the city’s economic development director and assistant city clerk. The creation of Gallavan’s position was also based on a recommendation from the California Association for Local Economic Development.

Each councilmember appointed three members to the committee:

• Councilwoman Cecilia Martner appointed Julie Menicucci, Janellle Osborne, and Terry Hammons.

• Councilwoman Ashley Costa appointed Robert Smith, Dawn Thomas, and Jason Montello.

• Councilman Bob Lingl appointed Dulcie Sinn, Alice Mulligan, and Steve Pepe.

• Councilman Dirk Starbuck appointed Debbie McComb, Robert Manning, and Don Pommerville.

• Mayor John Linn selected Tom Davidson, Rick Rantz, and Paul Patel.

No one contested any of the appointments. Each person will serve on the committee for up to a four-year term.

ā€œI thought I would have to throw out the names of some [candidates] I didn’t think would fit, but there wasn’t one person who wouldn’t have fit,ā€ Lingl said.

Gallavan told the Sun the next step in the process will be holding an orientation and overview, before buckling down to work on establishing goals and strategies for accomplishing those goals.

Gallavan was wary of being overly optimistic, but she said she hopes the committee will have some preliminary goals and strategies on paper to report back to the City Council in early spring 2012.
