Every school kid wants to be principal for a day, even if it’s just to replace those water fountains with soda fountains. On March 9, business and community leaders have the opportunity to fulfill that childhood dream, but as adults.

Community members who act as principals will learn what issues face educators. Participants will spend the morning at a school campus, where they’ll visit classrooms and help with a reading group or talk about their occupations.

At noon, Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce members will meet together with participants to talk about their experiences. In addition, during the luncheon, the Computer Connection program will supply six students who have demonstrated financial need with computers—one each from the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, Santa Maria-Bonita School District, and Guadalupe, Orcutt, Los Alamos, and Blochman districts.

Unfortunately, all slots to be a principal for a day are full, but members of the community still have a chance to attend the luncheon at the Elk’s Lodge.
