Diesel fleet owners, managers, inspectors, and others interested in learning how about diesel particulate management are invited to attend two free courses at Allan Hancock Collegeās Lompoc Valley Campus in October. The California Air Resources Board is teaching the classes.

Diesel Exhaust After-Treatment Devices (CARB Course No. 511) will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. Course topics will include diesel particulates and their effects on health; diesel emission control technology; diesel particulate filter construction and application; and the maintenance necessary for successful filter operation. There will be an optional field trip to see application of filter technology at a local facility.
In-Use Off-Road Diesel Vehicle Regulation Training (CARB Course No. 504) will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 10. Course topics include the vehicles and equipment subject to off-road regulation; requirements currently in effect; future compliance deadlines; and an overview of the Diesel Off-Road Online Reporting System.

The Central California Environmental Training Center at Allan Hancock College helps small- to medium-sized businesses comply with federal, state, and local regulations concerning the environment, worker health and safety, and homeland security. The center coordinates and offers low-cost or free technical assistance and affordable training options, including customized, on-site instruction.
The center serves San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Northern Los Angeles counties.
The center is at 1 Hancock Drive. The classes will be held in room 3-109. Limited space is available, and online preregistration is highly recommended. There will be a $2 daily parking fee.
