Enrollment in the Allan Hancock College’s distance learning classes (classes taught online and outside of the classroom) has increased dramatically over the last several years, from 500 students in 1996 to 2,800 students in 2008, according to a press release from college staff.
This fall, the college plans to offer 190 distance learning classes, including 173 Internet classes. Other distance learning options include video, DVD, instructional TV home study, and live video link.
In addition to online classes, a handful of video and hybrid classes are going to be offered. Hybrid classes combine Internet-based learning with traditional classroom instruction, and tend to meet onsite one or more days a week throughout the semester.
A valid e-mail address is required to enroll in Internet distance learning courses. Students who do not have Internet access at home can use a computer at the college’s Santa Maria campus Administration Office or at the Lompoc Valley Centers Learning Resources Center.
Classes will be offered in multiple subjects, including anthropology, art history, Internet marketing, history, computer office technology, Italian, fire technology, algebra, psychology, and others. For a full list of classes, visit www.hancockcollege.edu.
Online registration for fall classes runs through August 13. Registration for distance learning classes is also available via fax or mail beginning August 14.
For more registration information, call the college at 922-6966, Ext. 3248.
