Leadership Santa Maria Valley class of 2015 unveiled the first multi-purpose school garden at Kermit McKenzie Junior High School on June 9 at 9:45 a.m. at the school located in Guadalupe. School staff, city dignitaries, participating donors, and volunteers attended the special unveiling event, which showcased the new planters assembled mostly over Memorial Day weekend.

The garden included various fruit and vegetable plants to be used by students and school staff. The garden was built near the cafeteria so kitchen staff can use what is grown in the garden in school lunches. The endeavor is part of Leadership Santa Maria Valley’s Legacy Project, which is designed to leave behind benefits for years to come. Several local businesses supported the project with donations.
