On March 15 Santa Maria Kiwanis held the 55th Annual California Scholastic Federation/Honor Student Awards and Recognition Dinner at the Veterans’ Memorial Community Center. More than 300 students and supporters attended.
All the work to put on the event was handled by club volunteers and members of Kiwanis-sponsored Key Clubs. Key Club members are made up of local high school students.
Steve Lavagnino, 5th District supervisor, was the speaker at the event, which included students from Pioneer Valley, Orcutt Academy, Santa Maria High, Valley Christian, St. Joseph, Delta, and Righetti high schools. Each student honored received a medal and an application for a Kiwanis-sponsored scholarship.
All high school students are eligible to apply for the Kiwanis scholarships. Applications are available at local high school offices.
The deadline to apply for a Kiwanis scholarship is April 15. Those awarded a scholarship will be invited to a presentation/recognition dinner on May 5 at the Minami Community Center. There are 13 scholarships available.
