About 50 Ernest Righetti High School freshmen joined the JumpStart Academy this summer, a transition program designed to ensure students transitioning from junior high are successful.
The experience, funded by the California Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) Grant, wrapped up on July 31.
“We work to develop confidence and familiarity with the school, and our programs, to understand the academic expectations in the classroom, and for students to build strong positive peer connections,” said Geri Coats, a member of the teaching staff, in a press release.
The students were busy getting to know the campus, meeting staff and faculty members, and working on improving skills in reading comprehension, academic writing, and math, Coats added.
A workshop spearheaded through the ongoing EAOP/UCSB partnership with the district focused on the students imagining their future accomplishments and preparing a plan to be successful in high school, as that leads to positive college or career plans. A parent night that brought out about 20 families focused on how to support high school students from home using the district tablets and a student information system known as Aeries.
