Community members interested in discussing the future Union Valley Parkway project are invited to a public hearing to be held on Nov. 19 at the Santa Maria City Council Chambers, 110 E. Cook St., at 6:30 p.m.

The Santa Maria City Planning Commission will host the meeting, and will also consider making recommendations to the Santa Maria City Council based on the hearing’s findings. The council is expected to consider the commission’s recommendations at a hearing early next year.

Proponents of the Union Valley Parkway interchange hope it will better move people and goods through the Santa Maria-Orcutt area. A development has already been outlined in several general and specific plans, including the City of Santa Maria General Plan, the Santa Maria Research Park Specific Plan, the Richards Specific Plan, and the Orcutt Community Plan.

At the hearing, the Santa Maria City Planning Commission will consider an amendment to delete a segment of the future Union Valley Parkway west of South Blosser Road. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service initiated the proposal to avoid potential impacts to several endangered species.

Beginning Nov. 14, copies of staff reports and support material will be available at the Santa Maria Community Development Department, 110 S. Pine

St., or in the reference section of the Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St.
