New Bulldogs—listen up: All students attending Allan Hancock College for the first time this fall are required to attend an orientation.
The one-hour sessions are scheduled throughout the summer, with Mega Orientations scheduled for Aug. 6 in Santa Maria and Aug. 13 in Lompoc. Both sessions run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The orientations will cover what new students need to know about college services, including counseling, financial aid, health services, job opportunities, and more.
During the Mega Orientations, students will also be able to meet faculty and staff members, as well as participate in campus tours and workshops. Free school supplies and free food and prizes will also be available.
“Our goal is to ensure that all students begin college with the information they need to succeed,” Yvonne Teniente-Cuello, chair of counseling at the college, said in a press release. “We pack a lot of information into these sessions. Our research tells us that those who participate in an orientation like this have much higher retention rates—meaning they stay the course and achieve their goals.”
One-hour workshops are scheduled on the following days in Santa Maria: June 25, from 1 to 2 p.m.; and June 30, from noon to 1 p.m.; July 8, from noon to 1 p.m.; July 14, 16, and 23, from 1 to 2 p.m.; and July 28, from noon to 1 p.m.; and Aug. 24, from 1 to 2 p.m.; Aug. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. or 3 to 4 p.m.; and Aug. 27 from noon to 1 p.m.
