The Santa Barbara County Action Network announced the appointment of Joyce Howerton as the group’s director of advocacy and outreach.

Howerton is a founding member of SB CAN and has served as the organization’s north county vice president. As a three-term mayor of Lompoc, Howerton secured pay equity for women, created a regional landfill project, and developed the Lompoc Community Center.

She has served as the community outreach coordinator for the Fund for Santa Barbara, founded the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center, and co-founded Domestic Violence Solutions and the North County Women’s Political Committee.

She also served on the Santa Barbara Foundation Board of Directors for nine years.
