Ernest Righetti High School FFA’s Kinderpatch will be open for business on Oct. 24, when more than 500 elementary school students will learn the ropes of agriculture.

The program, which has been a part of the community for the past 20 years, gives kids a chance to learn about plants, crops, and animal care. Students who attend will also get the chance to pick out and decorate a pumpkin and choose a plant to take home with them. Each school with students attending will receive an apple tree for its campus.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon, and more than 100 Righetti FFA students will be running around with the kids.

Junior Bridgette Lopez, who’s participated in Righetti’s FFA since she was a freshman, said in a press release that she believes Kinderpatch is a great experience for both those attending and those doing the teaching.

“It feels great to be able to give back to our community and the kids,” Lopez said in the release. “We are trying to get the kids involved in agriculture at a young age and show them how fun it can be.”
