Pearls are the traditional gift of choice for celebrating a 30th anniversary, but in order to commemorate its three decades of service, Santa Maria Area Transit (SMAT) hosted several events Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, thanking longtime riders and the Santa Maria community. On Sept. 30, customers received commemorative pins. The following day, Oct. 1, plans included randomly selecting several passengers to receive monthly passes.
