Jenny Chiao, who has earned six associate degrees from Allan Hancock College, was recently awarded a $20,000 scholarship from PG&E to pursue higher education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

More than 1,000 students applied for PG&E’s STEM scholarships, and Chiao was one of 20 students selected by the company for the award. She will receive $5,000 annually for up to four years to continue her education, according to a Hancock press release.

Chiao said she plans to begin classes at Cal Poly in the fall to pursue her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in environmental engineering, as part of her goal to improve the Earth’s sustainability and protect public health.

ā€œAs an engineer, I hope to work with communities to attain balance between lifestyle, technology, conservation, and global health,ā€ she said in the release.
