Allan Hancock College will present Friday Night Science on May 5, featuring music created from bone conduction, an infrared light lounge, and smoke ring target practice, according to a press release from the college.

The free annual event draws more than 1,500 people each year, aiming to get children more interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.

Demonstrations scheduled for this year’s event include a jumbo kaleidoscope, a catenary arch, Coanda basketball, a slime station, a dissection table, and a walk-in pinhole camera, according to the release. Each station demonstrates a scientific principle.

ā€œRather than just telling students the answer, they will enjoy hands-on and interactive methods. There is no better way to learn about science,ā€ event creator Rob Jorstad said in the release. ā€œThere will be crazy lights, mirrors, sounds—pretty much crazy everything when it comes to our demonstrations.ā€

Friday Night Science will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the science building (building M) on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus.
