This fall, Allan Hancock College is offering Saturday-only classes—ranging in credit from a half unit to three units—at the Santa Maria campus and the Lompoc Valley Center.
Class subjects include winemaking, art, business, drama, English, global positioning systems (GPS), math, speech, and more. Internet/Hybrid classes, which combine online study with some onsite attendance, are also being offered.
For a complete list of classes, visit www.hancockcollege.edu and click the blue “Class Schedules” icon. Copies of the list are also available at all campus locations.
In order to better accommodate local students, the college also offers other learning options, including fast track classes, evening classes, and distance learning classes via the Internet.
California residents pay $20 per unit and other minimal fees.
Anyone interested in enrolling can register online through Aug. 13. In-person registration is scheduled for Aug. 18 and 19. Fall classes begin the week of Aug. 25.

The class is recommended for people who are interested in the field of substance abuse prevention or want to become involved in the effort to help young people avoid alcohol and drug problems.
Online registration is available at www.hancockcollege.edu, or by visiting the main campus at 800 S. College Drive, in Santa Maria. For more information, e-mail Human Services Program Coordinator John Lovern at jlovern@hancockcollege.edu.
Finally, spaces are still available for Allan Hancock College’s 2008-09 preschool Parent Participation Program. Applications are being accepted through Aug. 31. Enrollment is open to children who will be at least 3 years old by Sept. 1.
The program provides a hands-on environment that supports the development of young children and helps parents understand, enjoy, and appreciate the growing process, according to a press release from the college.
Enrollment is limited to 24 preschoolers at the Parent-Child Workshop, beginning fall 2008 at the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, 705 S. McClelland St., in Santa Maria.
Applications are available at the Discovery Museum and can also be requested by contacting Preschool Director Judith Dal Porto at 714-6796 or jdalporto@hancockcollege.edu.
