Want to help plan for Allan Hancock College’s future?
College officials are inviting Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Santa Ynez Valley residents to participate in two community forums on May 1. The first will be held at the Lompoc Valley Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; the second will be at the Santa Maria campus from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The college is currently developing its facilities master plan for the next 10 years. The draft plan includes facility concepts for potential new projects, placement of new buildings, parking, bike paths, and more.
“We’re going to talk about the Santa Maria campus and the Lompoc Valley Center, as well as about the Vandenberg Air Force Base location and Solvang,” Vice President of Facilties and Operations Felix Hernandez said.
The college and its planning task force have been working on the plan since last November. A draft version of the plan will be published on May 12.
Some recommendations mentioned in an April presentation to the Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees included:
- • Seeking a new partnership or permanent location for the Solvang center with more space for classrooms and support services.
- • Building renovations and quad improvements at the Lompoc Valley Center, as well as expansion of the public safety training center.
- • Renovations and new construction at the Santa Maria campus, including fine arts and theater complexes and a sports pavillion.
- • Relocating or repurposing the south campus on the southwest corner of College Drive and Stowell Road.
The meeting at the Lompoc Valley Center will be in Room 1-203 and at the Santa Maria campus in Room G-106B.
