Faced with unprecedented statewide budget cuts, the Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees has instituted a summertime four-day workweek to save on utility costs, according to a recent announcement from the college.

The four-day schedule, which started on June 1, will run for 11 weeks. The college and all its centers will be closed June 12, 19, and 26; July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31; and Aug. 7 and 14. Allan Hancock College doesn’t offer classes on Fridays during the summer term. Employees will work longer hours on the remaining days to maintain the same level of public access and student service. PCPA’s Marian Theater and its offices, however, will remain open on Fridays throughout the summer.

ā€œThrough reduced utility usage, we estimate to save $25,000 to $50,000 this summer by being closed on all Fridays,ā€ Rebecca Alarcio, director of public affairs and publications, said in a press release.

Based on current budget discussions at the state level, Allan Hancock College is facing a $3- to $4-million budget deficit next year.

Full college operations, Monday through Friday, will resume the week of Aug. 17.
