People can put basic beekeeping skills into practice as a first-time learner or as someone who wants to get serious about hobby beekeeping in the Intermediate Beekeeping class offered through Allan Hancock Community College Community Education.

The class will meet on Wednesdays, Oct. 15 through Nov. 5, from 6 to 8:55 p.m. at the Lompoc Valley Center in room 3-109. The fee for the class is $72, and an optional textbook is available for purchase at the first class meeting.

In the class, students will learn the particular behavior of bees in their own environment and become comfortable in setting up and operating a beehive. The course will put theory and basic knowledge to practice and should help students facilitate establishing their own hive/hives. Students will also learn to recognize what a bee does instinctively and how to work the hive in a way that minimizes stress on the little buzzers and maximizes honey-making effeciency.
