Allan Hancock College will introduce five new classes to its College for Kids program this summer, according to a press release from the college.

New courses will include “Science of Ice Cream,” in which students learn chemistry, physics, and agricultural science by making their own butter and ice cream; “Seed to Table Family Cooking,” which teaches kids how to plant a kitchen garden; and “Math Boot Camp” and “Explorations in Math, Engineering, and Computer Science,” which aim to sharpen students’ science and math skills with creative learning methods and drills.
College for Kids will also continue its offerings of ballet, hip-hop, and jazz dance classes, as well as courses in sewing, photography, and cooking.
“This will be a great summer for kids who enroll in our College for Kids classes,” community education coordinator Elaine Healy said in the press release.
The kids’ courses have staggered start dates from June 12 through Aug. 1, with class lengths ranging from one to six weeks. Children ages 4 through 17 are welcome to enroll, and they won’t receive course grades. Registration for College for Kids begins on Monday, May 15, at Hancock’s community education building on its Santa Maria campus.
