The imaginative artwork of Kermit McKenzie Junior High School students will provide a unique and unforgettable experience during the Guadalupe Kids Come First Art Gala on Thursday, March 24.
The event, which starts at 6 p.m. and wraps up at 8:30 p.m., takes place at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts and Education Center, 1055 Guadalupe St. Appetizers and a silent auction are included in the program.

Students will act as docents, explaining their artwork and the artists that inspired them, such as Jackson Pollock. The selection of work was completed in art teacher Erin Van de Roovaartās classes and features drawings, paintings, and sculpturesāsome of which are themed.
Guadalupe Kids Come First board member Kevin Baldizon said he believes the art gala provides an important environment for self-expression.
āIt gives students a public forum in which to display their art and showcase their talents and knowledge about what they have learned thus far about art,ā Baldizon said in a press release.
The funds from the silent auction are earmarked for the Guadalupe Kids Come First Foundation. The purpose of the nonprofit foundation is to support student achievement by raising additional funds that a school budget canāt afford, according to founder GUSD Superintendent Ed Cora.
