Want to help your local community but don’t have much to give? Until July 31, store merchants in the Food Maxx shopping center in Santa Maria are collecting donations of new underwear and socks for United Way’s Neighbor to Neighbor program. The much-needed undergarments will be distributed to low-income people living in Santa Maria and the surrounding Northern Santa Barbara County area.

The Neighbor to Neighbor program provides individuals and businesses with a simple and affordable way to help meet the basic needs of people struggling in the community. The program is designed to help families and nonprofit agencies cope with the current financial climate.

“In times of economic crisis, I think that we need to redefine the term ‘contribution.’ Gifts of products make a profound difference in helping our frontline agencies meet those needs and helping keep our neighbors from slipping further into crisis,” Eddie Taylor, CEO of the Northern Santa Barbara County United Way, said in a release to the media.

People interested in making donations can drop off new socks and underwear at the Food Maxx Center on the corner of Broadway and McCoy, or send donations to Northern Santa Barbara County United Way at 1660 S. Broadway, Santa Maria, CA, 93454.

For more information, or to coordinate a Neighbor to Neighbor product drive, visit unitedwaysb.org or contact Taylor at 922-0329, Ext. 107.
