United Blood Services of the Central Coast recently selected three local blood donors as finalists in the 2009 Jiffy Lube Drive to Save Lives Prius Giveaway. A total of 20 finalists will be chosen before Oct. 1. And one winner will become the proud owner of a new 2010 Toyota Prius at a special ceremony in early October.
The event, sponsored by United Blood Services, Jiffy Lube, and Toyota and Scion of Santa Maria, is meant to draw attention to a serious need for blood throughout the summer. According to a press release from United Blood Services, the life-giving fluid is especially needed as families take their final summer vacations.
Through Sept. 30, blood donors age 18 and older will automatically be entered into the giveaway contest. Blood donors can also increase their chances of winning by sending text messages about the giveaway or registering at a number of blood drive finalist events coming up in August and September. Finalists’ names will be drawn throughout the campaign to participate in the October grand prize giveaway.
Blood donations can be made by appointment or walk-in at any Central Coast United Blood Services center. The Santa Maria center is located at 1770 S. Broadway.
