“If you’ve ever thought about starting a career in public safety but were too intimidated to try, or were told that it would be too difficult, then this class was made for you,” law enforcement training coordinator Deb Annibali said in a press release.

Students can repeat the course up to three times in preparation for police, fire, or EMS pre-academy or academy training.

Class members will focus on increasing their upper body strength and overall physical fitness by using weight training equipment and practicing obstacle courses.

In addition to physical training, students will listen to lectures by guest speakers from different branches of public safety.

“Academy staff has noted that the women and men who have taken this class come to the academy better prepared both physically and emotionally for the rigors of academy training,” Annibali said in the release.
