A former airman with the United States Air Force who served at Vandenberg Air Force Base has been indicted on multiple charges relating to a traffic collision that occurred last summer near Vandenberg that left two dead.

A statement from the United States Attorney’s Office named Shaquille Lindsey, 23, of Covington, Ga., as the subject of a three-count indictment, including two counts of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the combined influence of both alcohol and marijuana. The third count alleges that Lindsey was driving under the influence and causing bodily harm.

The indictment alleges that Lindsey was impaired, speeding, and on his cellphone on Aug. 28, 2016, when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic on Santa Lucia Canyon Road near Vandenberg before colliding head-on with another vehicle. The collision left the driver and the driver’s wife dead, and the couple’s adult son seriously injured, the statement said.

The U.S. Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations conducted the investigation into Lindsey.

Vandenberg was unable to confirm before the Sun’s press time if Lindsey was serving at Vandenberg at the time of the accident. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance in early July in the United States District Court in Georgia.
