Gil Armijo, a former aide to 5th District Supervisor Joe Centeno, was scheduled to go to trial earlier this month over a felony charge stemming from a DUI case.

On Nov. 16, however, the 58-year-old Santa Maria resident pleaded no contest to the single count of perjury. According to court documents, Armijo is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 14.

Armijo was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in December 2007, and eventually reached a no-contest plea bargain with the Santa Barbara County Superior Court. County prosecutors later charged him with perjury for stating at a Department of Motor
Vehicles hearing that he wasn’t behind the wheel during the incident.

Currently, there’s a gag order preventing all parties involved in the case from speaking to the media. Armijo, however, has claimed repeatedly that he’s being targeted by the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office because of his former position with the county, his race, and several other factors
