
Libraries and the literary treasures they bring to communities nationwide will be the focal point of National Library Week, set for April 12 through 18.
To celebrate, the Santa Maria Public Library is hosting a series of events, culminating with the 19th annual Night of a Thousand Stars on April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Altrusa Childrenās Theater.
The event will feature a performance by award-winning storyteller Jim Cogan.
āEvery day, librariesāin big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businessesāhelp transform their communities,ā City Librarian Jack Buchanan said in a press release. āOur new Main Library is averaging about 2,000 visitors every day.ā
Library staffers will distribute a survey to community members, asking them for their input on future programming and online services.
First recognized in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the United States every April.
Free tickets to the 19th annual Night of a Thousand Stars are available in the childrenās section of the Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St. The event is open to children ages 5 and up.
