Santa Maria’s Smoke Tree Lane faced some cruel irony on Christmas Day, when four engines responded to a structure fire at a residence on its 1300 block.

According to a news release from the Santa Maria Fire Department, emergency crews responded to multiple reports of a house on fire at 5:46 p.m. on Dec. 25. The house’s second floor and attic were “well involved in fire with no exposures,” requiring an “aggressive interior attack” with ventilation to knock down the main body of the flame.

Responders included four engines, one aerial truck, and one battalion chief. The Santa Maria Police Department ran traffic control, and American Medical response provided a medical standby, though the fire department’s news release said a thorough search of the residence showed no injuries or fatalities.

Investigation into the cause of the fire was still pending as of press time.
