El Camino Junior High School is turning 85 years old this year—about seven times the age of your average middle schooler. To celebrate, the district is hosting an anniversary celebration on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The anniversary welcomes former students, staff, and community members to stop by the school to check out a display of school memorabilia in the gym and swap their own memories from their El Camino days, in honor of the school’s history.
“We want to hear lots of old stories and memories, and we hope it’s a chance for people to reconnect with friends and colleagues,” Annabelle Primrose, organizer of the anniversary event, said in a press release. “We are excited to have El Camino alumni returning, as well as people who have worked at the school through the years.”
Primrose said anyone with a connection to El Camino is invited, because “once a Titan, always a Titan.”
At the event, El Camino will display former students’ business cards to show how many local residents attended the junior high and what they did after graduating. Current students will hold their own celebration at an anniversary assembly on Friday, Jan. 20—the 85th day of El Camino’s 85th school year.
