The prospects for Northern Santa Barbara County’s economy in 2010 will be the topic of a seminar presented by the UC Santa Barbara Economic Forecast Project on May 7.

The program will feature Chris Thornburg, founding principal of Beacon Economics and chief forecaster for California State Controller John Chiang, who will speak on “The U.S. and California Economies.” Brad Kemp, director of regional research for Beacon Economics, will present the North Santa Barbara County Economic Forecast.

Santa Maria City Manager Tim Ness, Matt Turrentine of Turrentine Grape Brokerage, and Cynthia Schur of the Santa Maria Times will also participate in a panel discussion of local business issues.

The seminar will take place at the Marian Theater on the campus of Allan Hancock College. Registration and breakfast begins at
7 a.m. and the program runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Admission is $65 per person until April 30 and $75 after. The fee includes a copy of the 2010 North Santa Barbara County Economic Forecast publication.
