Tunnell Elementary School teachers David DuBransky and Patsy Mitchell, along with student Ashley Salinas, recently contributed to the fight against cancer. The teachers participated in a cancer walk at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and Salinas donated her hair to Locks of Love.

Salinas, who had never had her hair cut, told her parents that she wanted to cut her hair for Locks of Love, and had her long, black hair cut off during the last week of September. ā€œMy hair is healthy and I want to give it to the sick kids who need it,ā€ Salinas said in a press release. ā€œI want to be able to help make them happy and wish them to be healthy.ā€ The experience was especially personal for Mitchell, who said in the release, ā€œThese activities are a great opportunity to help those who are very ill. My sister lost her battle to breast cancer six years ago. Since that time, our family has been involved in cancer awareness programs. It feels great to know you are helping those less fortunate.ā€
