In case you haven’t heard the totally tubular news, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are BACK, and the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum wants in on the slang-driven, neon-green, ninja-hero sensation! The new TMNT movie hits theaters Friday, Aug. 8, and we have decided to keep the party going for you and your family by holding our own super awesome turtle power party! That’s right, folks, mark those calendars for Sunday, Aug. 10, because the pizza-loving, heroes-in-a-half-shell action continues here at the museum from noon to 4 p.m.

This event is free for members and general admission for non-members ($8 adults, $4 children). Guests can expect a ridiculously radical day including a visit from real turtles courtesy of TOO SLO Chapter of CA Turtle and Tortoise Club, supplies to craft your own turtle armor shell and mask at the Creation Station, free pizza generously donated by Patricio’s Pizzeria in Orcutt, and a special character visit from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and ninja trainer friend! This magical duo, provided by A Wish Your Heart Makes, will engage our young audience in ninja martial arts training, provide a Turtle Power initiation ceremony, and will also hold a special meet-and-greet photo session.

Heroes are an important part of a child’s life, whether real or fictional. They act as role models to inspire and motive our youth, helping them to learn and observe positive ways to deal with difficult or scary situations. Add ninja athletics to the mix, and it’s just plain healthy! Heroes plus physical fitness is a one-two ninja punch that we can definitely support, and, in truth, it has inspired us to mix the importance of physical fitness with the concept of heroes to create the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum’s first-ever Super Hero Fun Run! This 1K and 5K run will start and end at the museum on Sept. 28.
The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is at 705 South McClelland St. in Santa Maria. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. m
