L-3 Communications, a New York-based contractor, is laying off 92 employees at Vandenberg Air Force Base, according to Jennifer Barton, a company spokesperson.

The job cuts at Vandenberg are part of a greater number of layoffs within the company, including 136 at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, which sits along the Space Coast just south of Cape Canaveral.

The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity on Dec. 29, 2014. According to the notice, the cuts are expected to take place between Feb. 28 and March 13 of this year.

In an emailed statement to the Sun, Barton said the workers will receive severance packages and job placement assistance, which is a part of company policy.

She said the cuts were related to the loss of a contract with the U.S. Air Force.

According to the company’s website, L-3 NSS also does work in cyber and intelligence operations and information technology, among other types of government work. L-3 NSS is part of a larger company, L-3 Communications, which is based in New York City.
