A man who reportedly attempted to stab his parents to death on May 12 has been charged with attempted murder by the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office, according to court documents.

Jhordy Ramirez, 21, is facing felony charges of attempted murder of his mother, Silvia Diaz, with a special allegation of inflicting great bodily injury. He is also charged with felony assault with personal use of a deadly weapon against his father, Ricardo Ramirez, with a special allegation of inflicting great bodily injury.

Ramirez has been charged with the misdemeanor of resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer or emergency medical technician, as well.

The stabbings took place on the evening of May 12, when Santa Maria Police Department officers found Ramirez’s parents suffering from stab wounds, according to a press release from the department. Officers also found Ramirez armed with a knife.

The release said Ramirez attempted to re-arm himself when officers approached him to make the arrest.

Ramirez’s arraignment began on May 19 and was continued to Thursday, May 25, in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court.
