Former Guadalupe Mayor Sam Arca lost the 2004 election to current Mayor Lupe Alvarez; Virginia Ponce is a former city postmaster; and Oso Flaco Lake was voted one of the Top 10 Secret Coastal Escapes in Sunset magazine. The sewer plant is being modernized to meet Regional State Water Board directives for quality.
