Marian Regional Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, both operating under the Dignity Health umbrella, recently announced that they’d received a $34,285 grant to put toward the Healthy for Life Wellness Program, which teaches families about the importance of healthy eating and exercise.
The money came from Kohl’s Cares, a program that, in this case, collected funds from the sales of books and plush toys at Santa Maria-area stores.
According to a press release, the Healthy for Life Wellness Program began in September as a way to “teach children and families how to make healthy lifestyle choices, how to make healthy food choices, and how to increase physical activity.” The year-round program is offered at community and after-school centers in Santa Maria and Guadalupe in Santa Barbara County and Oceano and Grover Beach in San Luis Obispo County.
