Pull up a seat and tuck a napkin under your chin, the Community Action Commission Summer Food Service Program is providing free lunch—and in some cases breakfast—to children who qualify as low-income and who are attending summer youth programs in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Goleta, and Guadalupe.

Participating children typically get free or reduced-cost lunches during the academic year at their respective schools. According to CAC officials, the Summer Food Service Program ensures low-income children and youth continue to have access to nutritious meals for no charge until they begin school again in the fall.

CAC anticipates serving about 1,000 meals each day throughout the program’s run.

Meals will be provided during the summer at the following North County sites: Boys and Girls Club, 200 W. Williams, Santa Maria, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; Boys and Girls Club, 901 N. Railroad, Santa Maria, from 8 to 9 a.m. and 12:15 to 1 p.m.; Boys and Girls Club, 4689 11th St., Guadalupe, from 1 to 2 p.m.; Fun in the Sun, 1050 Pealla St., Guadalupe, from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.; Fun in the Sun, 600 S. McClelland, Santa Maria, from 11:30 to 12:30; and Good Samaritan, 401 W. Morrison, Santa Maria, from 8 to 9 a.m. and 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. All locations will be closed on July 4.

This is the 12th year CAC has operated the program, which is funded primarily by the United States Department of Agriculture, with some help from the ExxonMobil Corporation.
