Congressional candidate Matt Kokkonen offered a few clarifications in regard to the “Meet Matt Kokkonen” article in the Sun’s July 3 issue: “My reference to the fact that there is not a pipeline big enough to move all of the ANWR oil out over six months was a response to the criticism that ANWR oil amounts to only six months of U.S. need. I did not suggest that there should be a pipeline that large. However, using the existing Alaska pipeline’s daily capacity to transport the ANWR oil will offset all of the oil we currently buy from Saudi Arabia for the next 23 years. I do say, ‘American Oil from American Soil.’ My plan for mortgage relief relies on using the taxpayers’ own money. I would extend this tax-free withdrawal up to $50,000 from pension funds to first-time home buyer, as well.”
