Need funding? Santa Maria officials are asking qualified nonprofit organizations to recommend programs that should be considered for funding under the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.

Ā

The program is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, overseen by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Ā

Earlier this year, the city learned it would be eligible to receive $521,839 in program funding. The money must be used to primarily benefit individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The money can be used to provide financial assistance, including rental assistance, security deposits, utility deposits, utility payments, moving costs, hotel vouchers, and housing relocation and stabilization services.

Ā

Grant application forms for the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program funds are now available through the Santa Maria Special Projects Division or on the city’s website, ci.santa-maria.ca.us. The deadline for submitting applications is Aug. 17 by 5 p.m.

Ā

A pre-application collaboration workshop will be held on Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. in Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St.
