Four Santa Maria-Bonita School District third-graders won awards for the city’s fourth annual Santa Maria Utilities Department Water Awareness Poster Contest.
First place went to Dylan Kelly, second to Ruben Salinas, third to Ariana Diaz, and Jose Castro received an honorable mention. They were presented with their awards at the Santa Maria City Council meeting on May 7.
The water awareness contest is held in honor of Water Awareness Month each May and gives third-graders enrolled in the district a chance to create colorful posters that show the importance of water and how water can be conserved in homes and the community.
The utilities department offers informative brochures on water awareness, complimentary water conservation kits, and other conservation items such as toilet tank banks and shower timers. A 30-second public service announcement spotlighting Water Awareness Month will be broadcast all month on Comcast Channel 23.
