Pop star Ciara is calling all teens to get off the couch and do something to help their communities. The Grammy-winning singer recently teamed up with DoSomething.org and Staples for the second annual Do Something 101 school supply drive.
Ā
According to a press release from DoSomething.org, Ciara is asking teens to make a difference this summer by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at their nearest Staples store through Sept. 19. Staples customers can also get involved by donating $1 at any Staples store. The proceeds will benefit local teens in need.
Ā
In Santa Maria, school supplies and monetary donations will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Maria Valley, a nonprofit educational organization that serves disadvantaged youth.
Ā
āThe Do Something 101 campaign is such a great cause. I canāt imagine going to school without pencils, notebooks, and other basic supplies,ā Ciara said in the release. āEvery little bit counts and, through Do Something 101, the more we can get these essential products to teens, the more we help kids stay in school and excel even further.ā
Ā
To get the ball rolling, Staples is donating more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program.
Ā
Santa Maria teens interested in making a donation can drop off school supplies at the Staples at 2170 S. Bradley Road, or visit DoSomething101.org for more ideas on how to run local school supply drives and other nonprofit community events.
