On June 26, the California State Senate unanimously approved the appointment of four members to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. The new members are Lance T. Izumi of Sacramento, Geoffrey L. Baum of Pasadena, Scott Himelstein of San Diego, and Gary Reed of Porterville.

The 17-member board—primarily appointed by the governor—sets policy and provides guidance for the 72 college districts and 110 campuses that make up the California Community Colleges system.

According to a press release from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, the board will perform the ā€œvital role of keeping the core mission of the community colleges at the forefront of discussion, especially with the budget challenges facing the colleges.ā€
