Allan Hancock College is inviting students to “attend college at the speed of life” by earning a full semester course’s credits in eight weeks through the college’s Fast Track/Term classes.
More than 140 eight-week term classes are being offered during the spring 2009 semester. Almost 50 of the classes are being offered at the Santa Maria campus or other locations in the Santa Maria area, with about half of the classes beginning Jan. 26 and the rest beginning March 23.
More eight-week term classes are being offered at the Lompoc Valley, Solvang, and Vandenberg Air Force Base centers, and through the distance learning program (Internet, video, or DVD classes). Other Fast Track courses that run less than eight weeks will also be offered at all college locations during the spring semester.
Fast Track/Term courses are designed for students who prefer shorter, more intense study. Courses include auto technology,
biology, English, dance, early childhood studies, speech, blacksmithing, and more.
Students can register for all spring semester classes online at hancockcollege.edu through Jan. 14. Students can also register at any college location during in-person registration on Jan. 20 and 21.
All new and returning students—ones who attended Hancock before but weren’t enrolled the previous semester—have to apply to the college by completing an admissions application. Print copies of the admissions form are available online and at all campus locations. Copies can be turned in with in-person registration packets, but the online admissions application must be submitted at least two days before registering online.
The spring credit class schedule is also posted on the college’s website. Students can buy more schedules for 50 cents at any college location.
Many students must be assessed through START (Student Testing, Advising, Retention and Transition) placement testing. START offers a basic skills assessment and an orientation to college programs and services. The assessment isn’t an entrance exam.
Students with certain qualifications—including students taking classes for life-long learning or those with degrees—are exempt from assessment. For a complete list of exemptions and for the dates and times of assessment sessions, go online or call 922-6966 or toll free 1-866-DIAL AHC (342-5242), Ext. 3364.
