It’s not every day that students and veterans get to rub elbows with politicians and high-ranking military officials, but they did for the grand opening of Allan Hancock College’s Veteran Success Center on Sept. 10.

The ceremony began at 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting and honor guard presentation by the Vandenberg Air Force Base Honor Guard, followed by speeches by AHC President Kevin Walthers and Air Force Colonel Todd Schollars, commander of the 30th Mission Support Group at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The Veteran Success Center is a resource center for veterans at Hancock, giving them access to services such as tutoring, emergency loan programs, computers and printers, and support from other veterans. Opening the center was a massive feat of coordination, according to Dr. Henry Davis, a Hancock faculty member and one of the conceivers of the idea.
“It took more than a year to get off the ground,” Davis said. “The most important thing is making sure everybody had a say in the matter.”
