If you’re a tired, undirected student, or a member of the community looking for a replacement career, listen up: Allan Hancock College is hosting its Career Exploration Day on Oct. 2 at the Santa Maria campus in the Science Building Plaza behind the gym from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“We are seeing entry-level electronic techs earning $40,000 and up after two years of training,” academic dean Anne Cremarosa said in a statement. “Nurses typically receive signing bonuses on top of their lucrative salaries, and automotive technicians are in demand by local car dealerships who are offering incentives to begin training immediately at the college.”

Representatives from 50 companies will be present to share insights into their industries. Participating professionals will come from the fields of agriculture, law enforcement, education, and manufacturing.

Officials from Allan Hancock’s academic and vocational departments will also be present to talk about what classes are necessary for certain career options.

Approximately 1,000 local high school students are expected to attend.

The showcase will include a tour of some of the teaching labs at the campus. Students and members of the community are eligible for a raffle, in which the prizes include free tuition.

Anyone interested in showcasing their industry at the Career Exploration Day can call Lynn Mayer at the Career Technical Education Center at 922-6966, Ext. 3374, or e-mail lmayer@hancockcollege.edu.
