Two new student representatives will take the helm as Allan Hancock College begins a new school year.

Peter Gonzalez, 20, from Santa Maria, was elected as the Associated Student Body president in spring 2013. Gonzalez will serve until spring 2014. Lauren Kueffler, 19, from Nipomo, was sworn in as the new student trustee on the College Board of Trustees on July 16. Kueffler will serve until July 1, 2014.

ā€œI think it’s great that students are allowed to serve on the board,ā€ Kueffler said in a press release. ā€œIt’s one of many reasons that I just love this college.ā€

Last year, both students served on the Associated Student Body Board; Gonzalez as vice president and Kueffler as the director of legislative affairs.

Gonzalez is pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, while Kueffler is planning to transfer to UC Davis as an animal science management major.

In addition to increasing student involvement on campus, one of Gonzalez’s goals for the year is to organize student trips. His dream is to take students on a trip to New York City, so they get outside of their comfort zones and have new experiences.
