Learn all about the advances being made in cancer prevention, treatment, and research by attending a series of free presentations Sept. 22 through Oct. 20 at the Allan Hancock College Student Center. Each session will focus on a different topic, and will be presented by Marian Medical Center physicians and other health-care providers who specialize in their particular cancer treatment.
On Sept. 22, the series will open with a presentation on Santa Maria’s new Mission Hope Cancer Center—the first integrated cancer care facility on the Central Coast. The “one-stop” center will enable cancer patients to get all of their treatments in one location.
Other presentations in the series will offer information about advances made in prostate cancer treatments (Sept. 29), pathology and plastic surgery options for breast cancer patients (Oct. 6), and early colon cancer detection services (Oct. 13). And a session called “Spirituality and Cancer: Hope, Meaning, and Keeping it Real” will be presented on Oct. 20. Each session will run from 5 to 7 p.m.
A session on understanding cancer will be held for bilingual Spanish-speakers on Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Atkinson Center, 1000 N. Railroad, in Santa Maria.
Registration is required for all of the presentations, and pre-registration is encouraged to guarantee a seat.
