“Community Supporting Community” will be the theme of the day May 28 when the Allan Hancock College Foundation plans to award 289 scholarships worth more than $250,000 to 250 students at the college’s 40th annual scholarship awards banquet.

More than 700 students, relatives, friends, donors, and community members are expected to attend the 6 p.m. awards banquet at the Allan Hancock College Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Scholarships in amounts of up to $5,000 will be awarded to students from all over the Central Coast, from Solvang to Atascadero, according to an announcement from the college.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Ann Foxworthy Lewellen, who served as Superintendent/President of Allan Hancock College from 1992 to 2005. During her tenure at the college, Lewellen directed campaigns for the Allan Hancock College Foundation, which raised more than $2 million dollars, the majority of which went toward student scholarships.
