The MOMS Club in Orcutt has whipped up a cookbook full of favorite recipes, which is being sold to raise funds for the Friends of the Orcutt Library in support of the new library to be built in Old Town. As the MOMS Club press release said, ā€œWhat better way to support a library than to create a book?ā€

MOMS club members submitted recipes that are special to them in some way, whether it be their kids’ favorite dinner or a family recipe passed down by grandmothers and aunts. Orcutt pre-schools also contributed to the cookbook, offering kid-friendly recipes for making play dough, clay, goo, soap, and papier mĆ¢chĆ©. Many of the recipes are accompanied by a personal story or memory about what makes the recipe special, which adds to the local feel of the cookbook.

The cookbook’s presale price is $10 until March 15. For orders after that date, the price will be $12. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will be given to the Friends of the Orcutt Library. Orders can be placed at orcuttmomsclub.weebly.com. Also, MOMS Club members normally sell cookbooks at the book sale at the library the first Saturday of the month. The Los Padres Art Guild has invited the MOMS to sell the cookbooks at the group’s March 24 craft show.

MOMS Club is an international nonprofit started in 1983 by a mom who was seeking other moms with young children for friendship and fun. There are now more than 2,100 chapters of MOMS Club in the United States, boasting 110,000 members. The Orcutt Club has been around since 1999 with a membership of around 50 moms. It’s open to all moms of small children living in Orcutt. The club is designed for stay-at-home moms and moms who work part time or who have home-based businesses. The group has weekly playgroups, moms nights out, monthly field trips, guest speakers, and service projects.

Making Orcutt Friends of the Library a beneficiary of their fundraising event seemed a natural choice. MOMS Club service projects, which they are required by charter to do at least once a year, must benefit kids and their families.

ā€œWe are very excited about the new, larger library being built in Old Town Orcutt and are proud to be a part of it,ā€ said Lori Bormes, administrative vice president of the Orcutt MOMS club. ā€œWe are hoping that the money we raise can be used for kid-sized tables and chairs for the children’s area.ā€
