Many celebrations take place all over the world during the month of December, and the Discovery Museum is excited to offer programs that explore many of them. Throughout December, our program theme at the museum is “Celebrations Around the World.” Each of our three weekly programs will focus on celebrations in some way.
Tuesday Tales Story-time Programming helps with early childhood literacy and kindergarten readiness skills. This is a new program for us, and it is a great success! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Altrusa Foundation for the small grant awarded to the museum to underwrite some costs for the Tuesday Tales literacy program. Tuesday Tales is every Tuesday starting at 10:30 a.m.
Preschool Patrol happens on Wednesday at 10:45. This program also assists with early childhood development and kindergarten readiness. The weekly theme provides a fun way to explore numbers, letters, shapes, and colors. Children also participate in activities that help development of large and small motor skills. Preschool Patrol is designed for participants ages 3 to 5 years old.
Twilight Thursdays is every Thursday at 5:30. This allows for older kids to still stay involved with the museum, with a variety of hands-on explorations, and is a chance for families to spend time together after work, school, and other commitments.
Based on the month’s programming, community leaders are invited to the museum to present exciting local topics for our children to discover. Topics this month are How Denmark Celebrates Christmas (Dec. 1); Holiday Karaoke (Dec. 8); Hanukkah (Dec. 15), Winter Solstice (Dec. 22), and How New York Celebrates New Year’s Eve (Dec. 29).
