Peering down on the sidewalk during this year’s Orcutt Chalk Festival might just inspire a glance up into the cosmos. Blast Out of This World on Sept. 26 in Old Town Orcutt from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 75 students, professional artists, and beginners will transform their 6-by-6-foot concrete squares into colorful, detailed scenes inspired by the theme.
“Visitors are encouraged to watch the pieces evolve from the first chalk lines in the morning to completed masterpieces later in the day,” according to press materials.
Dozens of arts and crafts booths, nonprofits, and food vendors will be set up, too. Kids are invited for STEM activities and may decorate their own small chalk square. Entertainment will be offered via music, choir, dance, and theater performances.
The event is presented by the Orcutt Children’s Arts Foundation (OCAF), which supports creative opportunities in schools and the community. Its biggest event of the year is the chalk festival.
“Since 2011, the OCAF Chalk Festival has grown into a hugely popular community tradition, drawing more than 2,000 people to historic Old Town Orcutt,” according to press materials.
